Help!! LaCie External Hard Drive 2.0 USB (80 gb) stopped

Oct 29, 2006 9:19AM PST

Hello: Without warning, my LaCie external hard drive has stopped working. The orange power light is on but there is no sound. No spinning. Quiet. Nada. What do I do? My entire computer life (including many personal photos and scans) and backups were moved to that drive a few months ago in preparation for a computer upgrade.I took it with me on a business trip and it worked fine, but after a couple days in my travel bag it appears to be dead. Sad

Try the drive in a new case or a desktop.

That's the usual test.

I'll try it with my desktop. I think I've only tried to use it with my laptop. I've also tried a different power supply as I have another La Cie external drive. But the weird thing is that I get a power light but no other signs of life. When you say try a new case, do you mean buy another La Cie drive and swap it out?

thanks

Probably means another external enclosure .... in

the event the enclosure electronics have failed.

Enclosure doesn't have to be LaCie either. If it's not spinning when attached to power ...like in a a desktop PC ... might weigh your options.

Still under warranty ?
