sorry but I have a problem and not sure if it is my pc or cable

I have xp 64 bit pro system (new last summer)
2 raptors hdd raid
2 nvidias 7900 sli
asus MB sli read
internet web pages sometimes load lighting fast and other times load slow like molasses. I lag on pc games, and lag generally when connected. I have a home network set up by brother. linksys router and d link switch box ??
cable modem is atleast 10 years old.. comcast cable
I have run lavasoft adaware
spybot
antivirus
spyware blaster
ccleaner
cwshredder
defragged hdd
and everything seems ok. I tried dsl reports to get test but can not see my ip. I went into linksys router setup page and changed the block wan so my ip could be seen.. but to no avail.. it is not working. so I have only comcast ip.. and speed test show below average for cable.. also for some weird reason on pcpitstop 2 d video is very POOR! IT says I should be around 230 and my pc scores like 75. not sure what that is about either. Oh and last thought my flash player is messed up and Have tried over and over to fix. that is also issue

so I am a a loss on which direction to proceed cable connection
or pc problem???
please if anyone can help. also I am fan of cnet and regularly recommend you guys & gals for great help !

when I saw the age of the modem. Old modems are speed limited. Older modems have firmware of DOCSIS 1.0. Newer modems are at DOCSIS 2.x. When I replaced my Comcast modem my speed doubled from 3Mb/s to almost seven.

Replace the modem. Read this http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=323 It's the modem I have. And the price http://www.dlink.com/products/viewOnlineRetailers.asp?pid=323&sec=0

And if you look at the D-link site it says the new modem is optimized for Comcast. Since you say your modem is ten years old, the new modem has to be better. And it will be with the new DOCSIS 2.x.

You might ask Comcast if they will swap. I bought my own and can change at will. Your choice, but doesn't Comcast charge a monthly fee for their modem rental? After a while you could have bought your own.

To set up the new one all you do is call Comcast and tell them you have a new modem (if you buy your own), they will ask for the MAC address on the modem, you plug it in, it syncs, done.

I will try that out
I had RR and they were bought out by comcast, so no monthly charge other than broadband connection. though Nice to know when I call them to get upgrade. Wink
thanks for the tips I will try this out asap.
