help installing sql server express 2005

I am trying to install sql server 2005 express on a windows xp with sp3, and 2.0 and 3.0 .net framework, pentium 4 2.66 with 1 gm ram and 160 gb hard drive and when it gets to the screen that says scanning your computer's configuration it just hangs and does nothing and i have to close it out..anyone can help? thanks
