Hi everyone,
I need help in choosing a laptop, so I am turning to someone from you, who has more expertise Happy.
I need a desktop replacement kind of comp., fast, big HD screen, preferrably 18", good specs that would last at least 3 yrs, big HDD. Apart from regular usage, will also use it for photoshop, adobe, mild gaming Happy. Blu-ray is not a priority. The budget is around 1600$. So, the dilemma is (pls don't mind the language on the ads, just the specs Happy :

this goes for about 1350$.

Hp is my max budget.
So, my question is is it true that Acer are of questionable quality?
Which one of the 2 would you recommend? Or if you have recommendations for some other brand/model similar?
The bad thing is US companies don't ship to here, so I am stuck to the local market, so to say Happy.
I wanted a Sony Vaio AW, but waaay too expensive.
Thanks in advance for your help and have a nice day Happy

If you look at http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w146/rproffitt2000/?action=view&current=desktop2.jpg you see my lowly desktop replacement. It's a 550 buck HP dv6910us with some HP big screen in portrait mode. I didn't spend much and I get to pick up and go with my 15.4 inch laptop.

Yes, I had a 17 inch laptop before that but it was not working out since it was bulky and more. I gifted that to by brother and did this as well.

Oh, the 17 inch was Acer and is doing just fine. Yes, take ANY name and you can find someone with a grudge about them.

Wow the HP screen is huge!
So, Acer's fine Happy You're right - there's always someone unhappy about something... I asked about Acer because I've heard "their build quality is very breakable" or sthand there's no perfect machine anyway Silly.
That's a good idea with extra screen, but the thing is I want to manage w/o it...
Apart from this Acer and HP (which is so glossy it's annoying!), I started considering the Sony FW series - cheaper than AW, but still expensive Sad
So, it is now a trilemma... Happy

If you want tough you have to move to

Laptops like these -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toughbook

ALL the consumer gear usually breaks when dropped or when someone leaves a pencil, pen in the keyboard and closes the lid.

The screen issue is one I've learned over the years. Anti-glare means a loss of clarity so I've given up that for clarity and just rearrange the room lighting as need be to enjoy the clearer picture.

Hope that helps,
Bob
