HELP-Images Scrambled

Dec 10, 2004 2:31PM PST

HELP! - I sure hope somebody can help. I have a HUGE collection of jpg images stored in my computer with a program called Image Expert Images/Jasc PhotoShop Album ("hinged" somehow to MS Paint). Image Expert came preinstalled w/Windows XP and it really is great, then became Jasc. I use my images All The Time in my e-mails, for my desktop, etc. I have worked long and hard to assemble these images, and most of them are very important. My assumption is that they are stored on my hard drive. Today I was using the main image folder, briefly went to another folder. When I returned to the main folder, all the filenames were SCRAMBLED! I give very specific filenames, have everything grouped logically - the images all have dates, places, artists, translations -everything - condensed into the filenames. Now they are scrambled so badly I don't know how to proceed. I have always used the feature View by FileName. There are hundreds of images, each is precious, and now the folder is ruined. There is no support for this software, and I NEED HELP very badly to untangle the mess. Anybody? Thanks ginni ladytrickster

Hi ginny,

Your first step is to try one of these scrambled name image files, and see if the image is still working. If it is, then at least you haven't lost the image itself, which I imagine would be at least a partial relief.

Open up Paint, (goto Start > Programs, (or All Programs), > Acessories > Paint, and goto the File menu, then Open.

Navigate to your image file and try and open one of these images.

Let us know how you get on.

First you post about loosing your favorites and now this. Have you checked your computer for spyware, viruses or other malware? It sounds to me like you have something on your computer causing major problems.

Dear glb613 - Thanks for your response. I am heartbroken that both my Favorites and my Images have broken down, one after the other. I run SpyBot every day or every other day. I have Norton AntiVirus running always in the background, and a full system scan twice a week. Clean. I do a Disk CleanUp about every 3-4 days, and Defrag maybe once a month. I'm also having extreme problems with the SLOWness of my Internet (MSN ? & IE?) It is so slow as to be unusable. I will wait my entire lifetime for webpages to load. That's OT maybe, Don't you think the maintence I perform would prevent these troubles? All the research I'm doing depends in large part on the contents of both My Favorites and my Images. I do not think the Favorites can be reconstructed. The images, too are very important, and now the filenames do not match the images, and everything is out of order. RSVP again if you'd like. Thanks. ginni ladtrickster. all out of tricks

I dont know what may have scrambled you picture filenames. My first thought is the software program you are using may not be well debugged or that you simply need to reboot. I expect you have tried that.

But a slow internet connection generally points to virus or spyware problem. Have you?:

1. updated Norton Antivirus (likely automatic)
2. I recomend also getting adaware to remove the spyware. I use the free version and it works well, also they update the database of spyware regularily.

"Adware Filter adwarefilter.com
adaware.com
ada-ware.com exploits name of "Ad-aware" (1); same app as AdwareX, AdwareSafe, & SpyAssasin [A: 10-31-04 / U: 10-31-04] "

His website his here.

On the 'rip-of' site I posted accidently I saw a reference to the programming language Ada. That should have clued me in that something wasn't right. Ada is quite old, is there even a compiler for pc's? Oh well. I had downloaded Ad-aware long ago and had forgotten.

I would recommend you use more than one spyware scanning program. Download AdAware, install, update and run it. Also try doing an online virus scan at Trend Micro. If your computer comes up clean, post back. There is a post on this forum with links that may also help.
