HELP! I need a cable adapter for old HD's to XP

by JTGuthrie / December 14, 2004 2:04 AM PST

I was checking out Giganews and someone posted that he'd found an old harddrive that he had hooked up to his computer, (XP desktop), using a cable adapter - it would show up on his computer as a removable drive; and that they could be found in computer- carrying stores. I've looked, but can't find it. I have some info on my old computer that crashed (BIOS prob's), and would like to retrieve my stuff on the old HD.

Can anybody help - either explain how to, or which store I might go to??? Pretty please???

Sounds like an external enclosure. Hardly anything new, as they can be picked up for $20-50 at most hardware dealers like NewEgg.

I want to thank you very much for your advice - I live in Washington state; I'm not aware of "New Egg" - can I get something like that at Office Max, Circuit City, Staples or Fry's electronics?

Again, thanks so much for your assistance!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
