A few of links for you in case you haven't tried these so far.
Two links for the sound because the setup is twofold;
1] How to ensure that Windows has a "New Mail Notification Windows system sound" selected if an email client software requires it;
http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/qt/Change_the_New_Mail_Sound_in_Outlook_Windows_Live_Mail.htm
This allows you to choose which sound to use.
2] How to set WLM to play a sound when new mail arrives;
http://email.about.com/od/outlookexpressbeginners/qt/Enable_or_Disable_the_New_Mail_Sound_in_Win_Live_Mail_OE_WM.htm
This sets WLM to play the sound selected in 1] to play when new mail arrives.
3] How to set WLM to show an icon in the Notification Area when new mail arrives;
In Windows Live Mail, check in Tools, Options, and that both Make Default buttons are pressed and grayed out.
Also - How to ensure icons in the Notification Area display correctly;

I hope that helps.

Hi all
Newbie here, so I'm still navigating my way around Live Mail. I'm using Live Mail for my business and it's important that I am notified whenever an email request from a client arrives, both visually (I understand appears as an envelope icon on top of the Live Mail icon in the taskbar) and aurally (via a notification sound). 'New Mail Notification' is activated in the Sound Scheme but I hear no sound because, I guess, no envelope appears - there is in short no recognition of incoming mail.
Note I have no problem sending and receiving emails (and my system's set to check for messages every 1 minute).
It's vital that I get notification or I might miss out on a work request. Otherwise, I'll have to switch to another email program like Outlook, so any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Bertie
