Maybe something else?

If I knew more about the video I'd say it was in the wrong encoding. If it was I'd use VLCPLAYER to transcode it to something iTunes would eat.

Just because

you have a movie in iTunes does not necessarily guarantee that it is in a suitable format for the iPod.

You may have to convert it

what must i do to convert the file?

Depends on what OS you are running

Video for the iPod must be at 320 X 240 resolutions. Any larger than that will not fly.
If you are using a Mac, Handbrake or QuickTime Pro will do the job for you.
QT Pro will also work for Windows. Google search for free converters if you don't want to buy QT Pro
