Help! I can't display 1920x1200 w/ DVI cable on my 24inch

by Jason_Alexandris / December 23, 2006 8:29 AM PST

I just bought a BenQ 24 inch FP241W monitor and when I connect my computer with VGA I can display the monitor's native resolution of 1920x1200 but I can't display this when I connect with a DVI cable (the screen just goes blank for a few seconds and reverts to a lower resolution when I try).

Can anyone tell me why this is?

I have the latest driver's for my monitor and graphics card.

I guess there is a chance my graphics card can't display 1920x1200 via a DVI cable, but its a good graphics card so I don't think this is the problem.

These are the specs on my computer:
-Mainboard ? ASus M2N-E
-CPU - AM2 Athlon 64 3200+
-Video Card - Sapphire ATI Radeon X1600 Pro PCI-Express 512MB
-Memory ? DDR2 2 X 512MB
-Running - Windows XP Professional

Thanks for any help!

Contact ATI and see what they say.

In the past, when I contact them they seem to be helpful.

Graphics card's TV resolution
by acoxon1274 / December 23, 2006 10:09 AM PST

is 1024x768 per Sapphire web site. So as you indicated "I guess there is a chance my graphics card can't display 1920x1200 via a DVI cable" and that appears to be the case. While I was at Sapphire's web site I looked at other cards from them and saw that there were no cards from them with a higher TV resolution than 1024x768. I had to make the assumption that DVI resolution = TV resolution. I maybe reading it wrong, I?m just making a guess at it. I would email/contact Sapphire to confirm this. Maybe they can tell you more.

DVI is 'Digital Video Interface'
by Ray Harinec / December 23, 2006 11:03 AM PST

With a good video card the DVI should support the same resolutions as the analog. I once had one that wouldn't, RMA's it and the replacement worked both at full resolution.

The wide scree resolution may be the prooblem. That is NOT exactly a TV resolution although it makes the pictures ratio fairly close to TV.

I suugested ATI because the video chip is theirs and they might have better drivers for it.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
