Help I am lost

by theduckster68 / September 16, 2008 8:32 AM PDT

I run windows vista. I am trying to figure out how to share a picture file. When I downloaded pictures to my computer from my camera I was able to see them on my picture file. But my boyfriend uses his own user page. Went he signed on to his page, the pictures were not in his pictures file. I cannot figure out at all how to get the pictures from my file to also go to his picture file. Any help would be appreciated.thank you

Dawn

...then you can use Windows Explorer to find the pictures in the other user's profile.. Are either of you administrators on the computer?

Hope this helps.

simple solution

Hi,

Vista seems to place certain folders in a kind of "virtual space" for security reasons meaning that even though the pictures are viewable through your folder when logged in via your account; this is not the case when logged in to another account.

A simple solution would be to create a folder on your hard drive at or near root level (i.e. c:\pictures for everyone\) rather than at user level (c:\users\documents and settings...).

Just move your pictures to that folder and they will be accessible to all users.

Hope this helps

Something I do when I set up computers regardless of the operating system,

1. Create folder c:\Userdata\"Username's" Documents
2. While logged in as user, redirect their My Documents folder to the above path/folder

This makes finding things a whole lot easier, decreases the overall size of the user profile as reported by the Operating system (System Properties, Advanced, User Profiles), streamlines login and reduces login time since this common folder is not part of the user's profile (larger profile = slower login), and makes all user recovery during disaster mediation a snap because instead of hunting and pecking to find everything, you just pull this one folder and recover everyone's stuff all at the same time. (I usually go to C:\D&S\Username\Desktop and recover anything they might have there unless it's all shortcuts to stuff in the My Docs folder). Just a thought.
