Question

Help! How to fix wifi router problem

Feb 19, 2015 3:31PM PST

When i plugged broadband cable directly to my computer, it works well. But when i connect it through my netgear wifi router with cable, it lost internet connection in every 5-10 minutes. And then i have to troubleshoot internet connection problem, it fix the problem and shows DNS problem. But i get same problem after few minutes. And wifi network only connect to any phone but i can't use internet through it even for a single second. As i think its not a problem of broadband modem, then how can i fix this problem of my wifi router?

What happens if you reset the router (see user manual)?
What happens if you try another router?

If it happens with another router also, most likely it will happen with a new one also. So then something else is amiss.

I said "try", not "buy".
Maybe a friend has one you can use for an hour?

- What are the DNS-settings on your PC?
- Do your phones work elsewhere?

couldn't find a proper solution

Problem is same with both 'automated' and 'manual' DNS setting. Have changed DNS setting many of times but couldn't find a proper solution.
Ofcourse my phone connects well with many of other wifi networks.

Make sure your router is configured for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). If it is, try disabling and re-enabling the DHCP function. If that doesn't work, disable wireless security and see if you get a connection

Given so little detail

I can't guess if this is some incorrect setup. Many of today's cable modems have a router in them so we no longer can plug that into the WAN port and use it.

No longer plug and play, without model numbers and settings I can't see why it failed if it's a non-hardware issue.
