Help getting rid of SECURITY SHIELD VIRUS

Mar 3, 2012 7:26AM PST

My computer has been infected with the security shield virus. I googled to see how to remove it and all the websites want me to download some kind of program (and of course I am not going to download some random program and make my situation worse!).

Current Status: Just got it about 30 minutes ago (or at least the security shield window just popped up for the first time 30 min ago). I can still run all my programs. I ran Malwarebytes (quick scan) and it did not detect any viruses. I am currently running a full scan now.

I know I should reboot and start in safe mode etc.... but I am a bit nervous since can currently run/access all my programs I don't want to reboot and lose any functionality.

Can someone tell me how to manually remove this virus? Or what is a safe software to download that will remove it.

I have Windows 7

THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!!

Catherine
