help for a techno dummy?

I want an mp3 player capable of good quality soud, I'm not an audiophile, just had of hearing and need CLEAR, UNMUDDLED sound. I want to use it primeraly for listening to mp3 recordings from the Teaching company, i.e., lectures. I need a reliable, sturdy device that I can erase and record over if necesary, I figure 512/1GB capacity. I need a good bargain as I be po'.Can some kind young genius guide this old fool?
