Hi DC,
First, if you have everything connected, than the wires would be additional. I've built a few computers & never use all of the connections. Which is what those wires sound like, that you are describing.
Secondly, in your mobo (motherboard) manual, there will be a break down of what connections are & ones which are needed. Power, HDD light, reset, most all of these are two wire two prong, but so it the pc's speaker. They should have weird (till you know) abbreviations stamped on them. PWR LED comes to mind.
Go over your wiring with the manual in hand. You can see the obvious ones as you said, now look around for them on the board. Sometimes the board will have another abbreviation, sometimes, it'll even match the wire. Most of the time, it doesn't. Isn't this fun?
Case manufacturers make cases to fit a zillion configurations. The better ones include wires for all of these combinations, whether you use them or not. Same as most harness wiring (like in a car).
Good job on building your own, man the benefits (and regular fits) are abounding. Pace yourself, it's not over once the wires are in place. You still have to visit the BIOS. I'll nudge some advice to start. Leave most everything as they want it (mobo), till after you get the OS installed & rebooted a few times. You'll pull out less hair. once everything is stable, than, you play with the settings.
Oh yeah, if you need third party software (like a RAID system), be sure to tell your OS that you do, & have any software ready, as it will want it pretty soon. Oh, & don't forget to slide the button battery in place. This will be the source of your next headache.
I'll shut up now. Good luck & let us know how you're doing?
I am building my first PC. I have placed all the components in the case and connected the obvius things; fans, SATA and USB- Now I have 5 thin cables(each are actually 2 wires winded together)which I am clueless to! 4 of them are 2-pins, the fifth are a 1+1pin!! Nothing in the manual tells anything about these(about ANY cables actually)
Specs:
Cooler Master 690 Advanced II
AsRock Extreme6 MB
I find it incredible that wires are not mentioned in a manual, imagine things can go bad bad bad if I get this wrong!
Please help me out guys. Really want to get it fired up here.
-Thanks in advance.. DC
