Robyn,

Assuming your windows-folder is c:\windows, the message says that the file c:\windows\help\windows.chm doesn't exist. That's easy to check, isn't it. If the message is right, you're the only one who can tell what you did with this file.

Use start>run>sfc to check for missing files. It will extract them from your Windows 98 cd, and then this message won't appear any more.

Hope this helps.

Can someone help me. I do not understand how to extract missing files from my 98SE disc. I have not been able to access my help files or troubleshooter files for a long time. Get the message %systemroot%\help\windows chm is missing. Could someone help me in a simple way.

Robyn,

%systemroot is c:\windows (unless it's something different with you), so first go into Explorer and see if there is a file c:\windows\help\windows.chm
If not, the message is explained. If it is, doubleclick it to open and see what happens.

There seem to be unsolvable issues with Windows 98 help and updated versions of IE, but start with the above and post back.
