try the drive in another enclosure.
And if you succeed, please do yourself a favor and do a real backup ... you may have dodged the bullet this time, next time you may not be so lucky.
I hve only used this hard drive two times. I have tons of pictures on this drive and there are no other backups seeing as my computer crashed due to a faulty motherboard. It worked fine on my laptop which ran Vista, I verified that everything was on the drive using my moms laptop running XP. When I went to put more on my hard drive, I plugged it in without turning it on and it automatically restarts the laptop, so I tried another USB port and it completely shut off the laptop. The hard drive is Hitachi and it is powered/wall plug. It says the power exceeds the hub or something to that effect when I have tried plugging it into 2 other computers, one a laptop, the other a desktop. How do I fix this or at least get my data off? I just don't want to lose all the pictures I have. Thanks for your help!
