Help diagnosing 52-inch LCD problem

by divamac / June 18, 2009 2:17 PM PDT

I've documented an ongoing problem with my Samsung 52" LCD. I've had it about 18 months;about 4 months ago (of course, started happening after the warranty expires) it occasionally gave me static + sound when I turned it on. I would have to turn it off then on again and it would be OK. It started happening more often, often requiring that I turn it off and on several times in order to work. Today, I cannot get a picture no matter how many times I turn it off and on.

This is not the same problem I've seen with the 46" models (no picture, but has sound). This is a violent static + good sound. Link to a video of the problem is below. Any advice greatly appreciated. BTW, I've been contacting Samsung for service for 34 days and no response. Nice. Note, I don't know the exact model number offhand - the model number on the video may not be correct.

I have TimeWarner cable, connected through HDMI. The HDMI connection from the cable box has been a problem (lots of documentation online of bad HD cable boxes). Could the bad HDMI signal from the cable box have shorted out something in the TV?

Does this just happen with the cable box, or does it happen while watching other inputs as well?

Once its on, can you try a different source (DVD, for example) and get a different result?
