Help! Desktop Computer Seems Dead!

OK, My computer was fine this morning, in fact I have never had any issues with it for the almost 2 years I have owned it. After checking my email and banking, I shut the machine off. An hour or so later, I needed to email a client an invoice. Turned on the box, fan speed sounded faster than it ever had, hard drive activity light blinked on once, for about 4 seconds, and then nothing.
I retried 4-5 more times, same story. The machine is an e-Machine T5022, Pentium 4, 516 chip, 2.93GHz,,2Gb DDR 400 PC3200 ram, 160GB SATA hard drive, running XP Home SP2, and nVidia 256mb Video card.
I have checked all connections, fans are all running, including the video card fan. Hard drive spins up, and there seems to be no excessive heat any where in the case. I have removed 1 pair of the memory sticks and then the other pair to see if there was some sort of memory failure, did not make any difference. I tried the hard drive on another SATA machine I have, and it showed it was operating properly.
Any other ideas will be much appreciated.

Is The Monitor Dead?

In reply to: Help! Desktop Computer Seems Dead!

What are you seeing on the screen? If nothing, have you tried swapping in a known "good" monitor? Can you get to the BIOS setup screen?

Hope this helps and let us know more.

Nope, Monitor good.

In reply to: Is The Monitor Dead?

Monitor is fine, I am using it right now on another computer.
Cannot get into bios. Nothing but black screen and momentarily a box from ACER (my monitor) that says "No Signal". Also tried the dead box on another monitor, same thing.

Try This

In reply to: BIOS reset

BIGJim - Try a boot with bare bones hardware......disconnect any peripheral hardware devices that are not needed/necessary for boot.....e.g. any cards (graphics, modem, audio, etc.) CD/DVD drives, etc. etc.......If the machine still won't boot to bios with all extraneous hardware disconnected the problem may well be with the motherboard.

cheers.....JIM (little)
