Help Dell 6000 vs 8600

Feb 18, 2005 1:25AM PST

Ive been looking at Laptops for quite some time now and I have fianlly decided to go with a Dell Inspiron.
But which one?
For the same price I can get the:

6000 with a standard config:
M 730 1.6
WXGA
512MB 400Mz DDR2
Intel Media Accelerator 900, 128 shared
Intel Pro wireless 2100 802 11b

or the 8600:
M 725 1.6
WXGA
1024MB 333Mz DDR
ATI Rad Mob 9600 pro turbo
Intel Pro wireless 2200 802 11b/g

So is the 512MB 400Mz faster DDR2 better than 1024MB 333Mz DDR
and is the ATI with 128 better than the intel shared 128.
I mainly want the laptop for Photoshop work.
any advise would be greatly received.
Thanks, Dave.

The Mobility Radeon 9600 is much better then any integrated video-card and if you want performance I think you should for the 8600.

Just wait for Dell 6000 with Radeon X300/600/750

If you wait, you can get the new 6000, with the Sonoma platform and a PCI/Express x16 video card. It's probably the laptop I'll get refurbished for ~$900 next Thanksgiving. Wink

Thanks for the advice. I am looking to purchase one in the next few days. Is 512MB DDR2 better than having 1024MB DDR. Also the deal I am looking at is with a WXGA, not a WSXGA or WUXGA, will this make much of a difference doing digital work with Photoshop?
