Help Deciding between these two HP printers!!!

Feb 16, 2010 6:42AM PST

I would like some advice or recommendations towards which printer to get between these two. They are on sale at Newegg.com for $99 each. The specs are very similar...main difference is one has a higher color DPI and the other has faxing. The two in question are:

1. HP Officejet 6500 Wireless CB057A Up to 32 ppm Up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi Wireless Thermal Inkjet MFC / All-In-One Color
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828115455

2. HP Photosmart C309 CD055A Up to 33 ppm 9600 x 2400 dpi Wireless InkJet MFC / All-In-One Color Printer
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828115547&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL021610&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL021610-_-PrinterInkjetPrinters-_-LP1A-_-28115547

I'm not a huge photo printer....but maybe I would be with a good photo printer...and I don't "plan" to fax much but maybe it will come in handy...I guess I just want something that will last and may have all available features in case in the future I DO end up having a need or use for the feature.

Any advice or those who have used one of these would be helpful. Thanks, Josh

With printers at this price

we don't think about the future. We buy what we need for now at the best price we can. We use the printer and consider what we like and don't like about it and, with this experience, we look to the future. You'll want to consider that, depending on how much you print, you'll pay again for these with with just a few cartridge replacements. When the warranty is over and a problem arises, we toss the printer. Calculate the cost per page by going to the HP site and looking to see how many copies per cartridge. Reduce their advertised # of pages by at least 25%. Also know that you'll probably get starter cartridges with these and will be replacing them very soon. I'd say it's your choice and either will do in the short term but don't expect years of trouble free and inexpensive use.
