HELP-Covering My Tracks

Jan 31, 2005 12:10AM PST

I'm all over the internet. How Fun. Everyday when I'm finished, I go to Start-My Computer-View-Explorer Bar-History-Delete All Files. This obviously removes all evidence from "history" of where I've been that day. Oh, like I'm some kind of criminal! LOL. (Oh-WinXp-SP1. MSN Explorer/Internet Explorer). BUT-What About The Address Bars-is that what they're called? where url's can be inserted if you know what they are, or url's show up for everywhere you've been (google searches, too). Again, I'm all over the internet, and if you hit Any Letter of the Alphabet on the address bar/line, Everything Shows About Everywhere I've Ever Been. Clearing history obviously isn't doing it. I also perform Disk Clean Up very regulary. *So, How Do I completely cover my tracks and get rid of all those URL's that appear in my address bar?* I could have some extremely embarsassing moments. Your advice is greatly appreciated! ginni

In Internet explorer, open Tools>Internet Options. Under the General tab, click on Delete Files and then check the box to delete offline content, click OK. Also click on Delete Cookies. Below that click on clear history. The google toolbar has it own option to clear your search history. Try right clicking on the search bar. A menu should open with the option to clear search history. By the way, Internet Options is also available in Control Panel so you can access it without opening IE.

AutoComplete

To remove all the history from the address bar, forms, usernames and passwords do the following:

In internet Explorer TOOLS > OPTIONS and under the CONTENT tab, there is a button called AutoComplete. In there you can remove all this information.

Hope this helps.

In addition to the other good suggestions, I use Spybot Search And Destroy to remove the usage tracks. Although it's not a "default" setting, you can open the "Settings" tab, then the "File Sets" option. Place a CHECK mark in the boxes next to "Usage Tracking" and "Tracks.uti". The scan will bring up all sorts of tracks that you may not be aware of.

Hope this helps.

Two free programs I like are: Free Internet Eraser and DustbusterXP. They'll get rid of a bunch of junk for you. Happy surfing.
