Resolved Question

Help connect Smart View 2

Feb 2, 2015 3:22AM PST

Installed Smart View 2 on my new UN65H6350 Smart TV.
Could not connect.
PC shows error "Your TV current status prevents screen sharing (e.g., HDMI is not supported for Windows)".
If this program will not work with Windows it will not work for most users.I have Windows 8.1.
Samsung chat could not resolve.
Set email to Support, no reply received.

PART 2. HDMI input to TV should block share to PC.
Feb 6, 2015 12:23AM PST

That is expected and I'm singling this out because I want to be sure that no one expects this to work. HDMI is a protected transport and well, it's all over the web what's up with that.

In short, if the TV is getting a feed via HDMI, it should block sharing that to other screens. That's by design.

This seems to be the answer for now.

It's hard to believe Samsung did not know the HDMI limitation when they wrote this because almost all HD TV's prefer HDMI. PC Share Manager works fine sending to a TV that's connected over the network. They should be able to figure out how to do the reverse for their Smart View program.

Answer
Try going to the store you bought it.

Have them demo the feature working. If they can't make it work and it's a feature you paid for, why not make this the reason to return it?

PS. This is all over the web.

Smart View 2 is downloaded directly from Samsung from their suggestion. Store has no part in this issue.

The store, maker has everything to do with this.

You buy products from the store and maker for many reasons. Support being key along with long explanations why things do or do not work.

If you find like most this doesn't work (HDMI is a bummer at times) then and if Samsung or the seller doesn't explain it satisfactorily to you, why not make it a return? You expected this to work, and for what ever reason it's not working.
Bob

PS. Yes, I know why but I'd like the maker and sellers to do what you paid them to.

The unwanted answer to the problem.

Samsung Support has just notified me that Smart View application is not compatible with windows 8.1.
They suggested trying it on Windows 7 or 8 which is not possible if you only have an 8.1 system.
Since this is a free download there is no recourse until they decide to update the program. They apparently don't know that the majority of new Windows systems sold now are 8.1.

If anyone can figure a work around please advise.

Thanks. I hadn't heard that and

Windows Compatibility does not fix problem

Thanks for the suggestion but Windows Compatibility Troubleshooter did not correct the error.
Still hope someone comes up with a work around or Samsung realizes how out of date this program is.

I apologise here.

Frankly the only time I see companies get into action is when there's a raging fire. That is, if sets are being returned and the support lines are jammed. But then again look at the 11 million reads on this thread -> http://forums.cnet.com/7723-13973_102-542437/service-issues-click-here-for-help/?tag=contentBody;threadListing

Samsung sells a lot of gear but my thought is to return products when they fail to deliver.

Then again I am no fan of how they engineered this. Why they made it so fragile in the first place is a mystery. That is, to send content to the TV you must be logged into Smart Hub. Wait a moment, why is that a requirement when it's just my device and TV in play?

Sometimes you wonder why they did that.
