Help Choosing Camera for Dog Rescue Organization

Dec 21, 2011 2:52AM PST

We run a dog rescue and rely heavily on our camera to attract adopters. We currently use the Panasonic FZ100. We like Panasonic (probably because we have had Panasonic for awhile) but pictures in low light are not the best and video indoors and in low light is very dark.

We are not professional photographers and, frankly, have not taken photography classes.

We're looking for a camera that takes great pictures and video in indoors/low light (no flash) and outdoors, and that has a swiveling LCD.

Can anyone help?

I suggest you keep your current camera but add an external flash unit.

You can avoid that "ghost-eyes" look that the in-built flash causes.
Ghost-eye is the dog equivalent of "red eye" that we have all encountered.

Get an external flash unit that has a tilting flash head..
Then you can tilt the flash toward the ceiling when indoors and bounce the flash off the ceiling which will prevent sharp shadows and ghost eyes.

With the external flash, you probably wont encounter anyway because the flash is raised high above the lens.

Rather than go through more details, I suggest you look at this video that is about the Panasonic FZ100 with an external flash:

You should visit a camera store and let them help you select the correct external flash unit for your camera.
Not a department store but a camera store that only sells photographic equipment.
Take your camera with you.

Thank you, Snapshot2. This is very helpful. I will visit a camera store after Christmas. I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
