Help Choosing A Camera for High School Yearbook

by PaulG5372 / March 4, 2007 7:43 AM PST

Right now we're looking between the Olympus FE-230 and the Nikon Coolpix L5. I wasn't too impressed with the Nikon's reviews, but cant find anything really on the Olympus. We're on a pretty tight budget, but these 2 are in our price range. Which would you go with between these 2? Also any other suggestions around this price range? We all ready have a D70 SLR but our old point in shoot is dying so we need to get a new one. This would be for just basic shooting of clubs and people, etc. We use the D70 for all of our sports. Thanks for any help!!!

The Nikon L5 shutter lag is a bit long for my liking (0.7 second).
The Olympus FE230 is very new and has not been reviewed yet.
The photo quality for the Nikon and the Olympus is about the same.
I used an older model Olympus FE190 photos for comparison.

If you can find one, I would suggest the Canon A620.

Around Christmas it was selling for just about $200.
The price was low because the A630 and A640 were just coming on the market.
The A620 has a very sharp lens and has some manual controls that lets it do some of the work of your D70.

Here is a look at the specifications:
