HELP!! CD-ROM refuses to play at all!

I have a CDROM for a statistics program called SAS. I put it into the CDROM drive and close it. The disc will spin up, if trying to autoplay, and then promptly halt, and nothing will happen. I do not even get any options from the autoplay screen. The CD is dead in the water, and refuses to run its setup file even when trying "backdoor" routes (ie, all the "My computer" or "Control Panel" menus). Am I missing a needed driver, or is it a bum disc?

Do ANY Other CD's Play in Drive

example Music CD or other type files (exe/data whatever)?
If ANY others work normally the problem is likely the SAS disc.
Note: I have had a "dead DVD drive" show up in the wizard/manager as working OK when in fact it wasn't!! Replacing unit alone fixed the problem so don't believe it!
