HELP!!!!! camcorder camera combo

I have spent the last 2 hours online looking at all types of camcorder/camera combo units and am totally lost. I am looking for a digital storage camcorder/camera combo for around $500. Does one exist that is not in an obscure brand that I have never heard of before? Please give me a suggestion.

Other than your budget, do you have any other requirements? External mic? MiniDV, DVD or hard drive based? Low Light requirements? Stills image quality (megapixel count) preference? Fit in a pocket or is bigger OK?

Are you looking for the "solid state memory" type like the ones made by AipTek, Sanyo, DXG and others? (I don't even know if you can spend $500 on one of these.)
