Question

HELP buying mid-range gaming laptop

Feb 25, 2018 1:41AM PST

Hi there guys, i need a laptop for a mid-range gaming, i have up to 350 euros, and i expect the laptop to run WoW-MoP, WoW-Legion, Dirty Bomb ( at least low-mid setings), Gta V ( at least on low-mid setings)
I found three within my price range and they are:

1. HP 15-BW009NM:
Processor:AMD Dual-Core A6-9220 APU (2.5 GHz, up to 2.9 GHz, 1 MB cache)
Memory: 4 GB DDR4-1866 SDRAM
Graphic:AMD Radeon™ 520 Graphics (2 GB DDR3)
Storage:500 GB 5400 rpm SATA
Display: (15.6") diagonal HD SVA anti-glare WLED-backlit (1366 x 76Cool

Price: 300 euro

2. ASUS X541NC:

Graphic: NVIDIA GeForce 810M (2gb DDR3)
Storage: SATA HDD 5400RPM 500GB
Memory: 4GB - 1 x4GB SO-DIMM socket , up to 8 GB SDRAM
Battery: 3 cell battery
Price: 370 euro

3.ACER ES1-532G
Display15.6" HD LED backlight, anti-glare
Resolution: 1366 x 768
Processor:Intel Pentium Quad Core Processor N3710
(1.60Ghz, burst up to 2.56GHz) 2MB cache
Graphic: nVidia GeForce 920M (2GB DDR3)
Memory: 4GB (4GB x 1) DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM ( up to 8gb)
Storage: HDD 500GB 5400RPM
Battery: 3 Cell battery
Price: 360 euro

Personally i think out of three the best is Acer, what is your opinion?
Doesn't matter which 1 i get i plan to install Win 7 os on it because it isn't that demanding and i think laptop will handle games better.
( If i get Asus or Acer i plan to install 8gb ram in the future).
Please tell me which 1 is best out of these three considering the price and specifications ( looks aren't that big of a deal to me)

Re: Windows 7

Most current laptops don't have Windows 7 drivers any more. So if you install that OS, there's a good chance it won't handle games at all.
But it seems these are all old ones. Still, it's a guess. Check the makers site before buying any of the three.

Well on my brother's pc which i use sometimes games run smoothly on win 7, and you are probably right, they don't come with win 7 buth i will go to lap top service and have them install it. What do you think they are old, are they like 2015?, If they are from 2017 it is okay. What do you think out of these three which is best?

Re: laptops

I can't find an English language review of the HP (only in Czech, I think) and I didn't search for the other ones. And the other ones also seem to be country-specific.

Better find reviews yourself. But I doubt if these can be called "mid-range gaming laptops".

Why can't they be called mid range, are they too weak? Which one would u say has the best specs out of the hp, asus and acer?

Yeah i know, buth for wow, ditry bomb is good, i would be satisfied if any of these could run gta v on low settings

Only the 920m would have a shot at that.

By that I mean it's the best GPU of the lot, should run but it's anyone's guess if it will drop to 2 frames a second.

Then some recommendations please?
Feb 26, 2018 9:11AM PST

There is some acer with FHD screen, i3 procesor, 4gb ddr4 ram, geforce 940mx graphic, 1tb hdd buth it is 450euro.
There is some lenovo with FHD screen, i3 procesor, 8gb ddr4 ram, geforce 920mx, 1tb hdd and it is 440euro.
Buth i have 450euro total so idk if i would want to spend all of my money at once, i think 1 of those 2 laptops would be great for me, i think they would run gta v even on medium setings with playable fps number.
Buth if you could recommend me like 1-2 laptops with pentium or i3 procesor, with like geforce 920 or radeon 520 with ddr5 memory, with at least 500gb hdd, at least 720p screen, and 4-6gb ram, some laptop like that for like 360-370 euro??

Or you would recommend me that i save up a little and buy one of those 2 lap tops, that acer or lenovo which i mentioned on the beginning?

Sorry what is this about a radeon?
Feb 26, 2018 9:54AM PST

I didn't see that in your top 3. And won't guess what it would deliver.

You are asking for champagne on a beer budget here. Be honest. I will write that what I can buy here is not there so I can't do this shopping for you. I can only WARN YOU OFF the worst of the models.

What is WRONG with less than 1080p FHD screens? You have a low budget so maybe it has to give up on the nice things.

As to the 940mx, yes that should beat all 3 at the top post.

720p is totally cool
Feb 26, 2018 10:11AM PST

I'm fine with either 1080 or 720p screen it is not important.
What i'm looking for is a budget laptop up to 360-370 euro with which i could play gta v on low. And in that price range the best 1 i could find is Acer ES1 532G P8G8 with Ekran 15.6"
Screen: 1366 x 768
Procesor: Intel Pentium Quad Core N3710
Graphic: nVidia GeForce 920M
Ram memlry: 4GB DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM
HDD 500GB
That is fine with me buth idk if it could run gta v, i checked minimum system requirements and it could run by what i saw

Maybe I wasn't clear.

I can't shop for you. But I can help you avoid models that will not work at all or if they work like the 920m, warn you about frame rates.

That Pentium is also a little concerning. Why? The lowest speed PC MasterRace suggest is this other Pentium.
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-N3710-vs-Intel-Pentium-G4560/m141841vs3892

The N3710 didn't hold a candle to that. The N3710 didn't even hold up to the usual bargain mobile i3 -> http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Pentium-N3710-vs-Intel-Core-i3-6100U/m141841vsm37381

I'm not saying it won't run. I'm writing that you may be upset with the results.

Conclusion??
Feb 26, 2018 10:51AM PST

So do you think other one i mentioned, LENOVO which has i3 procesor, geforce 920mx, 8gb ddr4 ram, 1t hdd, 2 cell battery OR that ACER with i3 procesor, geforce 940mx, 4gb ddr4 ram, 1tb hdd, 4 cell battery would be acceptable? I checked on gamedebate and it isn't half bad for both of those. Both of those are 100 euro more than my first three main choices buth the main question is the difference in specs worth it? And if it is worth, would u chose Lenovo or Acer?

So acer it is
Feb 26, 2018 11:25AM PST

Well, rhen i will wait some time and get that acer, after a week or two a good mouse and headphones, and some time after i will probably put more ram to have 8gb total. Thanks for all your time and help

While I can't assure you of this.
Feb 26, 2018 11:33AM PST

All the Acers we've bought over the years have had very nice displays.

- Collapse -
I didn't check that
Feb 26, 2018 11:46AM PST

While i firstly wanted 350euro laptop i saw that i can't play some better games on them which i wanted, and it is better to once buy one better laptop than to get low-end laptop and later replace it with a better one which at the end would be more money.
This acer has 1080 display which is quite nice, buth honestly i would be more than happy with 720p display because i played on 720p monitor for 2-3 years and i still love it.
My only concern is overheating and battery life, concerning overheating if acer would overheat i would get some nice cooling pad and it would be a bit better, and battery is concerning me because it is 4 cell lithium polymer battery

Answer
Battery power for gaming is a dead end today.
Feb 26, 2018 12:04PM PST

If you check notebookcheck.com you find a 10 to 1 or worse drop in battery time from light browsing to gaming.

This is why we rarely talk about gaming on battery power for laptops. It's just a bad idea. Maybe in the years to come this will change.

If you need mobile gaming, go check out a Nintendo Switch or your cell phone.

Home use only
Feb 26, 2018 12:11PM PST

Yeah buth i would use it only at home, my brother has great mid range pc, i5 procesor, 16gb of ddr4 ram, gtx 1050 ti graphic, it is all great buth he doesn't let me use it like for 20-30min tops, so i decided to get me something to play games, watch movies etc, and i decided to go for a lap top, and i would use it at home so i'm not buying it for mobility
