And hope for a hit. If you want to seal some air filter housing, duct tape is always the choice (see Red Green videos on how to use.)
Hi all.
This weekend I decided to attempt DIY maintenance (probably first mistake) on my car's* air filter.
The bolts holding the air filter cover in place were heavily rusted, and I gave the first one a good crank with my socket wrench (in the wrong direction, second mistake) and cracked the bottom half of the plastic housing (see image: http://imgur.com/a/6Ag2m ). After cursing alot and briefly panicking, I swept away the debris (seen in picture), put the filter back in (still clean), and reattached the top half of the housing (minus the one bolt).
My questions are: 1) How urgent is repair? What are the implications of driving around with a missing bolt? A new housing will run me about $80 (part + shipping) if I replace this myself (risking greater harm to my car!). I am a poor graduate student with not much money. 2) Although I did my best, I am concerned that rust and plastic debris are still hidden inside the "clean" half of the housing. Will a small piece of plastic or rust do damage to my motor?
Thanks everyone!
