Help: Bluetooth Headphones with a non-bluetooth MP3 player

Oct 16, 2007 5:06AM PDT

So I bought some bluetooth headphones on sale and want to use them with my Creative Zen MP3 player, which does not have built in bluetooth. My idea was to get a 3.5mm - USB adapter (like this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4670) and attach a Female-Female USB gender changer, then a USB Bluetooth dongle. I can deal with the fact that it's going to be bulky, and even with not having bluetooth controls, but will it even work? I'm mostly concerned about how I'm going to pair them. Thoughts/Suggestions?

Thanks,
-Capn

From what I see...

nowhere in the description anything about blu-tooth dongle. I would assumed this will not work with the earphone.

Will it work? I hate to guess. You might give it a try; we are talking about less than $10 total here.

But here is something else that you may not have seen though, notice both usb device has same type of connector, so you do need another connector to mate the two together.

I hope you didn't pay alot for the earphone because you could have buy one (with dongle) for about $40.

Doesn't BT require some cooperation from the OS to be able to configure a connection between the dongle and the earphones?

Pairing has been mentioned but with no user input being possible, I'm not sure it will connect with the dongle.
Having said that, I have a Bluetooth headset and iPod attachment that connects automatically once the pairing has taken place.
Pairing is achieved by button pushing on the earpiece and the attachment.

As has been mentioned, @ $10, it's worth a try

yea, I had to get a Female-Female gender changer (like 99 cents i think) so I guess if nothing else this project will give me some spare parts lol

You can also buy a bluetooth transmitter mine is made by motorolla and it works great. It will automatically sync with your headset and then you can are free to move with no cords.
