Help balancing 2 Wan connections

Nov 10, 2008 10:40AM PST

Hi, I have 2 WAN connections right now, a 6mb/768kb Adsl line and a 8mb/512kb cable line. I've been trying to figure out a way to combine both lines to increase speeds on multi-connection downloads/uploads, primarily bt and usenet. I'd rather not invest in a dual wan port router since I won't have both connections for too long.

So far I added a couple registry values that I found on this site
Http://www.geekswhoknows.com/article...onnections.htm
and was able to get my upload speed to combine in utorrent. I am currently uploading at 140 kB/s. However my download speeds seems to be limited. It looks like each adapter is only downloading at 300-400kB/s. I increased halfopen connections in utorrent and in the registry to 1000.

In Usenet i'm connected to 3 servers using 12 connections and i'm also not able to combine my download speeds.

Anybody have any ideas?

Btw. I'm on Vista Ultimate x64.

Don't think it'll work . . .

There are two different protocols, ADSL and cable, and because of the net architecture, the data being uploaded or downloaded will take different "routes" or hops" to the destination.

hmm..

Thats what its supposed to do. Since i'm using two connections, when I start a multi connection download it uses both lines and takes separate "routes". When I do a single connection (ex. speedtest) it only uses one adapter.

I was able to get it go a bit faster with Utorrent, I'm now able to use both lines downloading around 600kB simultaneously each and upload is still around 140-160kB. Here are some screenshots showing the speed on both adapters while active.

I'm still trying to figure out why it's not working on newsgroup downloads since i'm downloading in multiple parts from multiple servers. I'm assuming all the binary downloaders bind to an adapter where utorrent listens and sends over any available adapter?

Thanks to quade at newsbin forums I got it working with usenet downloads. Here a shot while downloading only from usenet.

All that was needed was to add static routes from each news server to each adapter.
