Help! Anti-virus software won't turn on.

by mickeyfreak01 / November 12, 2009 8:42 AM PST

I have tried many times to turn on my AVG anti virus, but it won't turn on. I also tried free online scans. My computer will not download, save, or run any kind of anti-virus or malware/adware removal tools or scans to find the problems. I also tried to download and run HijackThis, but that won't work either. My OS is Vista if that makes any difference.

You could give the following a try....
by Marianna Schmudlach / November 12, 2009 10:11 AM PST

Please download and run the following tool to help allow other programs to run. (courtesy of Grinler at BleepingComputer.com)
There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Admin
You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them.

Rkill.exe http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe
Rkill.com http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.com
Rkill.scr http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.scr
Rkill.pif http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.pif

The tool should run on all 32bit versions of current Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7).

After you ran the tool, try AVG again.

Help! Still can't save or run.
by mickeyfreak01 / November 12, 2009 11:31 AM PST

Thanks for the info, but I was unable to save or run any of the 4 links in your post. Not only can I not save scanners, but I am unable to save anything at all, including word docs to a flash drive. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Oops, almost forgot. My cursor is occasionally jumping all over the screen by itself. It heads to left corner and I have no control over it.

happens even if I'm not within a foot of the touch pad. I can just sit and watch it move around on its own.
