a MS auto/live update security patch a couple of months ago?? Many have reported bizarre problems w/ IE7 installed & have reverted back to IE6 buy uninstalling 7 via add/delete programs. ![]()
I believe that Windows has somehow been blocking certain programs from accessing the internet to function. So far the following programs are denied internet access:
-MSN Messenger
-AIM (new version, older version still works fine)
-Yahoo Messenger
-Dell Automatic Updates
-Internet explorer (although Mozilla, AOL, and Netscape work fine)
-Webshots Desktop Photo Upload
I have changed internet connection, disabled firewalls, disabled anti-virus programs such as the default windows application as well as McAfee and uninstalled and reinstalled the above programs and nothing seems to fix it. I am by no means an expert at Windows but I've tried just about everything within my knowledge and nothing works. This has been happening for a few months and I can't think of a program that I installed or anything I've deleted that would cause this to occur, as it seemed to happen randomly.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but my USB ports have been on the fritz as well. If anyone has any ideas I would gladly appreciate them. My computer is a Dell XPS DXP051 desktop and I run on Windows XP Media Center Edition.
Thanks!
