Help adjusting LN32A550

Feb 5, 2009 11:52AM PST

When I saw this on display at Circuit city, it looked great. But, now after having it for a week or so, I notice that the color does not look as good. It is very hard to get skin tone to not look pale. If I try to turn up the color or tint too try to correct for the skin tone, then things lie their lips, or clothing look very unnatural. Also, if I play with the settings enough, I can get HD to look ok, but then SD looks very bad.

I am going to get a calibration DVD, but I had some questions:

1) What is the best way to determine the Back Light level.
2) What is the 0 point for sharpness (I have herd that some LCDs now have negative sharpness. What is the setting to apply no filter?)
3) Does the "blue mode" work as well as using a blue filter?
4) What is the best setting for the HDMI black level?

Also, I am just curious what TV manufactures don't have a "NTSC/ATSC standard" preset? I can understand in the days of analog, but since all the controls on these new sets are fully digital, it seems like it should be easy?

Thanks!

Another site that has a Samsung forum is www.avsforum.com. Find the Samsung forum, look for calibrating. There are a couple of good examples there They get all the way into gain, gamma, white balance, etc.and you don't need to buy a calibration disc to use these settings. I tried some of the settings and I'm very satisfied.
