Your first issue is new to me. I don't have any idea about why this happens.
About the ribbon. You need a third-party tool (not free) to get back
the old menu's. See http://www.addintools.com/
And I've read (but I didn't try) that Office 2010 will have the option to hide or minimize the ribbon.
For a desktop, I'd recommend a bigger screen. For a laptop, and especially a netbook, that's a problem. Office 2007 just doesn't seem to be the right program for such hardware.

I just moved from MS Office 2000 Pro to 2007 Pro, and am having a couple of problems I hope to find some help on.
First, when I print worksheets (mostly those modified from older 2000 built worksheets) some of the rows print in normal text, the others print in ?grayed-out?, background, whatever. I don?t see any connection re modifications ect, but my goal is for the printouts to be all the same.
My other question is with the screen view in Excel 2007, about the top 1/4th of the screen is filled with tool, command choices etc I have. Is there a way to go back to drop down menus, so I can view my data instead of my options for effecting the data hidden by all my options?
Thanks for any help you can offer and help this ole fashioned dummy.
