Help

Oct 22, 2009 6:38PM PDT

Well I'm finally ready to choose my first HDTV, but I have to admit I'm pretty overwhelmed with the options. I've done some research on several sites based on my preferences below but still am having alot of trouble narrowing it down.

46" TO 55" (PREFERENCE ~ 50" - 52")
USED FOR WATCHING MOVIES (on PS3), playing online video games (XBOX360), and watching sports (primarily NFL)
Price Range - up till $1800 (again prefer to stay in the 750 to 1500 price range)
TV area does have a fair amount of windows but I have good blinds, during games I usually leave a indoor light on)
Distance - usually within 10 to 15 feet of TV
I tried to include stuff on the low end and high end range as well as those in the middle. Basically looking for the best deal for my buck. Thanks for all help and suggestions....

Just jumped in myself this week

I just dove in after TONS of research and went with the Panasonic Viera TC-P42G10 and could not be happier. I got it from NewEgg for less than 800 bucks and free shipping. It came in two days. I have a pretty small living room, which is why I went 42. I'm glad I did as 46 would've been too big. Our viewing distance is only 8 feet or so. There is such a thing as too big for rooms and TV's.

On NewEgg the 46" version is only 1150. The S-line (I think it has fewer doodads) 50" version is less than a grand.

Read the reviews on CNET and Amazon about the G10 line - pretty stellar stuff. We don't do a ton of gaming, but for TV/Movies it's been wonderful.

Specs and HDMI
Oct 23, 2009 12:36AM PDT

When buying an HDTV, the specs are what will matter most. 1080P/120Hz should be the standard you want to aim for. For your purposes, you do not need 240Hz or an HDMI bundle package(they are a ripoff). Also, the size based on your distance of 15ft should go too much over 50in. That should be plenty big enough.

As for cabling, the best value I have found is with a company called Comprehensive. For short runs this is the cable you should go with:

Good luck!

...for LCD. If the OP goes with a plasma it won't matter Wink
