Then that explains why it won't deal with DVD media. Aside from physical similarities, CDs and DVDs are very different beasts. DVD-ROMs can generally read CDs, but not vise versa.
I do have to admit it's been a long time since I've come across a CD-ROM that won't read a CD-R disc however. Are you sure it's not CD-RW? Up until into the Pentium II days, there were still plenty of new systems shipping with CD-ROMs that couldn't read CD-RWs. If it is a CD-R and not -RW, I'd look to how the disc was created. Since you offer no clues as to any of that, I can't even speculate.
my cdrom wont play dvdr cdr or normal dvd the disc icon appears but nothing happens i go to my computer and right click d drive click play and a message appears no disc in drive please help me
