Help!!!

Jul 19, 2005 7:51PM PDT

Ok please someone help me! I just came from bulgaria where I bought a new mp3 player. I thought it was a pirate but i didnt care, thought it said sony on the top and so on. Now while i tested it, it worked beatutifully. BUT THEN, i read the manual and it said something that i should download and firmware upgrade or somthing, and it had a file name that i googled. I found it. Then i did just as the manual said, and its did as it should have done. When i unplugged the mp3-player, it wont turn on!! Like when i push the button where it should start, it just stays blank!!! im in deep trouble if this crappie device ate over 80 euros... I thought it might be the file i downloaded, that itd be a virus... Please quickly answer! Sad

It's a lesson.

When something is working beautifully, you have to resist the urge to fix it.

Sadly, this may be the day you learned this lesson firsthand since you discovered there is no support for your device.

Your first post writes it worked and now you write it doesn't?

-> Frankly this sounds like a warranty issue. Return it and let them replace it as many times as it takes.

A couple suggestions
Jul 20, 2005 1:31AM PDT

Our family has had a few similar things happen with our Apple iPods. In these rare instances, it has usually been software glitch, requiring that the unit be "rebooted" or "reset," like you would do for a personal computer. I don't know the device that you have but look at your manual and see if there are instructions on how to "reset" the device. (On the iPod, you have to hold down a combination of buttons at the same time for 3 seconds.)

See if you can reset the device. IF your user manual does not mention this, check the manufacturer's web site for your model; often good manufacturers will have detailed info on troubleshooting on their website. (Of course, if your device is a fake, checking the real manufacturer's website may not help.)

Finally, if you cannot figure out how to reset the device, try draining the battery completely or removing it so that the device loses power completely. A complete loss of power usually causes the device to "reset" when powered back on, and that may fix your problem.

Here's an experience that my brother had when he got his new iPod mini. He loaded up the device with music and went on a trip. While making choices on the keypad, the software froze and would not respond -- he could not even turn it off. Eventually, he discovered that the device, being turned on, wore down the battery, and it eventually shut off by itself. He then recharged the battery completely. After that, his mini-iPod "reset" when he turned it on, and everything worked fine after that.

Good luck!

formatting?
Jul 20, 2005 7:50AM PDT

i can format it, but i read somewhere that it will delete everything it need to work. Does this mean if i format, it will be useless? I dont understand how stupid i was... putting 80 euros in this pirate junk... -____-

in the future for firmware and other support I suggest going to the manufactor's website to download updates that way you know you can't get a virus.

Ouch, that means that no one can help you here. The forum policy also forbids helping pirates.

-> I reread this thread and frankly I'd pack it up and ask for a full refund. Next time you'll know to deal with reputable companies.
