Help

Jun 13, 2005 11:56AM PDT

I recently puchased Samsung's HLR4667W and I'm wanting reassurance that I made the right choice. I've noticed a grainy look with up close views of actors' faces while watching DVDs. I don't have ditigal cable at the moment so I'm unable to see HDTV. The rainbows are not an issue really.

I originally planned on buying Sony's KD-34XBR960 but was concerned about screen size and weight. I wanted to find the best picture quality for under $2500.

I'm debating whether or not to return the Samsung and get the Sony. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

TRY THIS ................

I have some friends who where obessed with sharpness and clarity when they first got their HDTVs. So much that they end up pushing the sharpness level on the tv too far up. If your sharpness level is beyond 75%, try reducing it to smooth out the picture.

Also, I have a DVD player that has two setting of displaying how crisp the image can be. I keep that on the lower setting as well.

Good point

I've noticed this in a lot of stores as well. I often turn the sharpness down and the picture improves dramatically. In my experience, hyper-sharp images often look grainy and detract from the movie experience. They tend to look "digital" (like a cheap LCD projector rendering) rather than the "analogue" look of a good old-fashioned CRT tv. I like to use the cd vs. vinyl analogy, but I'm kind of old-fashioned too.

I just bought the Sony KP-65wv600 16x9 hi-def t.v. for only $2500 it may be heavy but the picture is stunning and the black level is better than the l.c.d and d.l.p set at half the price also get the dish network 811 satillate system I pay $39.00 for basic and the hi-def package and I just added voom for $5.00 a month more . also you can throw up an outside antenna and get all your local channels in digital hi-def. just make sure you use a d.v.i. interface cable which doesent come with the installation that will cost you $100.00 but if you want hi-def you have to get it also the 811 has optical audio output for dolby digital 5.1 sound good luck please reply I am new at this chat thing just look for stewart norrie and please reply
