suzycat1,
I recommend, to avoid neck strain, that you look directly as closely to the center of the television in a relaxed position. Mounting it higher is good if you can recline a little bit, but for most "couch sitters", a low stand would likely be idea. That's just my opinion, and it can vary with your preference.
The stand itself can be relatively small if you like the smaller designs, but I'd recommend having a stand big enough that the entire base of the television is on it.
I don't recommend removing the stand unless you've got a wall mount that you're going to use to attach the television to the wall.
Thanks for considering Samsung. Keep me posted!

I am ready to buy the Samsung 46A650, and I also need to buy a TV console to put the TV on and all of the components in. I have seen some furniture consoles with a height of 20" and some as high as 32", all designed for a 46 or 47" TV. Is there a recommended height for a LCD TV for optimum viewing? Is it better to be looking up a little bit, down a little bit, or directly to the center of the screen?
Also, can this TV sit on a console without the stand? Does the stand come off, and is it bad for the TV to sit directly on something?
Thanks!
