Is done by technicians and often in the shop. There are a lot of folk looking for remote troubleshooting and so far I've yet to find any tech offer this.
So to do this on your own you would get out the service manual so you can see what parts do what and then track down the sound. I can't tell if this came from the set or speakers but that's something you have all over any remote help.
The service manual is at www.samsungparts.com for about 12 bucks (USA models) and more ideas at http://www.shopjimmy.com/tv-repair-tips
Once you have these and have guessed what board to try, find that board and swap it out. That's how it's done most of the time today.
Until recently I had no problems with my Samsung DLP TV model HL-S4676s. I have Apple TV attached to it. A few weeks ago I encountered this very loud crackling sound...almost reminiscent of thunder and lightning. The only effect was to render the sound mute. After turning the TV off for a period the sound would return without the crackling. But after a while the crackling would return and the set would lose sound. I talked to the Samsung help line but this was new to them. I can't identify the problem. I've tried resetting everything, but the problem persists. It could be a speaker problem or maybe a fan problem but I have no idea how to even trouble shoot. Any advice will be most appreciated.
