Resolved Question

Heatsink?

Dec 19, 2011 12:22AM PST

E-System PC Windows Vista.
Fan running constantly so I took the side off and blew it all out. fan still running constantly even with the side off.
I'm thinking heatsink/thermal paste could there be other reasons? How hard is it to replace thermal paste?

Some systems run all the time. My really new i7 laptop has that latest model of everything and it barely runs at all.

It would be strange for me to think my older laptop should use it's fan as little as the new laptop but I think that is what you did.

Hi Bob,
sorry about the delay but I've been reinstalling Vista on this machine and ran across the service pack won't install issue. Took me ages googling but it's right now.
To clarify, this Vista machine is my daughters so I wasn't used to the fan noise I guess this is proper then.
Thanks again for setting me right once more.

Fan running constantly

IMHO I've never seen a CPU cooling fan that didn't run constantly -- maybe I haven't seen them all though. As far as thermal paste and removing the fan see the link below and note the silver clip on one side and the lever on the opposite which releases the cooler from the motherboard:

Hi, on my other pc Windows 7 the fan runs for about 3 seconds on start up and then I don't hear it but on this one it's running full tilt all the time. Thanks for the link.
