headphones problem in windows 7

Feb 21, 2011 6:46PM PST

OS is windows 7 ultimate 32-bit
i am using high definition audio device from Microsoft
speaker, mic and headphones are working
front panel and back is also working

my speaker and the mic from this headset is working, but when i tried to use the headphones and the mic together, the headset is not listed or detected in the playback devices! i cant set my headphones to default because it is not displayed, and when i tried to unplug my speaker, still it doesnt recognize that i have my headphones plugged.

i tried install my sound device(VIA HD audio device ) my speakers and headset are working at the same time but my mic is not recognized, but when i uninstalled it, i got my first problem regarding the sound devices

but when i installed Realtek, same result with the first one that Microsoft is my audio device.. thank u!

Sounds like a warranty issue.

But your post contains an interesting idea. Only recently and on some very new machines did the circuitry and software arrive to detect when the headphone is plugged in. I'm left to guess you are new to PCs and didn't know that this detection is not standard.

That is, this old PC design is very simple. You have some audio output or card and you wire it to a few places that you can plug in speakers or a headphone. Just recently in some machines the new circuits and software do more.

What I see happening is that some user will use the new machines and then go to another machine and expect such detection when it's not a feature in that machine.

Look at the maker's web site?

I can't find the make, model of the machine under discussion so this makes it hard to see if there are drivers available. But you can ask the maker or check their web site and see.

It would help to know the Make of computer or Motherboard.
I have Windows 7 Standard Pro 32bit and MSI790gx motherboard with Realtek 97 sound. The Motherboard has rear outlets for speakers and headphone and plugin location for front headphone or stereo speakers.
Realtek 97 allows front and rear to operate at the same time but not the same stream. Or it will mute the rear speakers when headphone pluged into front.
You might check to see if front connections are pluged into MB. Check Realtek configuration.
