Hello Everyone,
I have fixed my problem.
I went to Control Panel/Troubleshooting, and went to "Hardware and Sound" and clicked on "Troubleshoot Audio Recording."
The window showed 'Troubleshoot and help prevent computer problems.'
A click on "Advanced" showed - 'Apply repairs automatically.'
'Next' showed two details for Microphone - one indicated that the connector for this device is located at the front.... and the other that it was located at the rear.
I clicked the circle to indicate that it was connected to the rear, clicked 'Next' and I was informed that troubleshooting could not identify the problem.
On checking to see if the mic was now working, I found it to be working well!

I hope this information will be of assistance to someone in the fututre.
Hello Everyone,
I have W.7 Ultimate, 32 bit. Using Forefox 16.
I have headset with mic. It is plugged into the rear sockets where audio and voice are situated.
I can get no sound from the mic.
When I check my Control Panel/Sound, I am informed that the Speakers are green-ticked and the headphones are red crossed and noted as "Not Plugged In."
Fuirther searching discovers that they are supposedly 'plugged in at the front,' when in fact they are plugged in at the rear.
I can not find a way to obtain a choice to change the plugged in at front, to plugged in at rear.
I obtain sound from both the speakers and the headphones of the headset, but the mic does not work.
Any advice to get the mic working would be most appreciated.
Thank you.
Colinito
