Does it matter to you if they are over-ear or in-ear?
Can anyone recommend a decent quality pair of headphones designed for kids? Seems hard to find a pair that actually sound good and are designed for smaller heads. Thanks!

I don't know if it really matters as far as ear safety goes, but I think for my kids I'd prefer over the ear rather than in ear. One would think that over the ear would be safer, but that's just a guess...
personally I preferred over the ears; reason being it's loose enough but yet secure. It also let me hear what is going on around me as well, but then...some people doesn't like that. Maybe this way you can keep track of how loud your kid play their music also.
What headphones you want depends on what youll be doing while wearing them. If they are say listening to an MP3 player while playing outside,, sports, or riding a bike I would reccomend in-ear or ear bud headphones, and for ear buds I highly recommend SkullCandy ear buds. The cheaper model , Skullcandy Inkd, is only $20, has decent sound quality, and fits in the ear comfortably... plus if your kids are like mine it's thankfully cheap to replace when they lose it. If you think they'll be responsible with them I would suggest upgrading to the Skullcandy Titan model, it sounds much better for only $40 or so.
Now if they're plugging the headphones in to a gameboy and sitting around I would use a cheap over-the head model like the Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones for $50. Mid range sound and noise canceling that should adequately reproduce whatever he or she is listening to. They are comfortable and (once again) cheap, so gold star from me.
Now, if you child is some savant who LIVES for their music, it's going to be expensive but I have NEVER heard music sound as good as through Bose
