Question

HDV 301S 1080p camcorder issues

What screen looks like when charging

Picture of Camcorder Model

My camcorder has a couple of issues. Not sure if anyone could help me with this; practically, it doesn't want to do anything. I plug the camcorder in (with the SDHC card inserted, and what it does is shows the Welcome screen and then goes to a pixelated screen. (The image link is included). When I go to unplug it, it makes a very loud static-sound when it's turning off.
I then tried to charge it up without the SDHC card inserted. It turns on normal and then goes to a completely white screen. Not sure if there is a short in it or if it is the battery itself that is causing these problems. I bought it brand new. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how I can go by getting this digital camcorder fixed?

Thank you in advance.

That's what we call a no-name product.

You have the product so check it's documentation for how they handle repairs. Most of the time the shipping back to the company is more than a new recorder.

Finding a Solution

In reply to: That's what we call a no-name product.

Thank you for the info. I have been working on a process to find a solution on how to fix this camcorder throughout the morning. I believe I am getting there with it finally. I did a test today by connecting my camcorder into my computer via usb. The camcorder turned on perfectly fine, then the screen showed "Waiting," and then the picture screen appeared as to take picture or video. This was actually the first time I tried this method. Did not even think to try it this way.

Then, I tested it again by plugging it into a different wall outlet. It turned on with a static type sound and then went to that green fuzzy pixelated screen, like the image I attached in the prior message; and same thing. When I went to unplug it like before, it still makes that loud static sound.

So, I have come to the conclusion that, so far, it is the wall charger that seems to be causing the camcorder to malfunction. Once I have it charged up enough through my computer, I will test it later to make sure it turns on and the features are working on it. I will let you know if the reasons I mentioned are true. Thanks.

So if it's the charger.

Good find. My point is that with no-name things like this you have to make do and supply details such as the company where they are and what they will do for support. I found such things to be, well, disposable.

Problem Solved

In reply to: So if it's the charger.

Just checked the camcorder this morning with a spare wall outlet plug and it powered on fine. So it definitely is the charger that came with it.
