... the screen height is half the diagonal measurement on a 16:9 HDTV. This figure is useful if you wish to compare the vertical picture size of your prospective TV with the vertical height of your old one. Therefore, if you buy a 42 inch HDTV, the vertical height is 21 inches, which is the same vertical height of a 32 inch standard 4:3 screen.
