Question

HDTV on the PC from Directv Genie

Dec 12, 2013 11:41PM PST

I would like to watch HDTV on my PC and had a Genie from Directv installed next to it. I tried with a USB TV tuner from Aver but the picture is not real HD sharp. I'm using a composite input on the tuner. Now someone told me, to have real HDTV the HDMI cable has to be used. So I bought a new PC with an HDMI outlet. If I connect the Genie directly to the PC via an HDMI cable, nothing happens. Am I doing anything wrong or is the HDMI outlet on a PC just meant to be output to serve a HDTV and cannot be used as input?

Answer
The problem is deep.

And most HD content protected so what you need to understand first is that with all the studios and others installing blocks to HD transport what is technically possible is broken by the makers.

But back to your Genie to the PC. So few HDMI ports on PCs are inputs. Here's a PC card for HDMI input or capture. -> http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/

Genie => PC

Thanks Bob for your answer.
I looked into this blackmagicdesign products and I'am still not sure how they work. Would they come with software, so I could actually open the TV session in a window like I do today with the tv adapter software?

Another solution came in my mind:
I need to replace the PC anyway. What if I would buy one with an HDMI output and replace the monitor just with a small HDTV. I would the run the PC to HDMI1 and the Genie to HDMI2 on the little TV monitor.
What do you think about this? mark.

Then no sale.

If the seller and maker does not answer your pre-sales questions then shop elsewhere. I only noted it as a possible way to add an input but your question is pre-sales and I'm not here to sell their product.
