HDTV Lost Sound

Jan 2, 2009 11:41AM PST

I purchased an LN40A750R1F (40" 750 Series) last Saturday. We love the picture! Then yesterday my wife and I were watching the a DVD on our new Sony 5 disk DVD player (connected by HDMI). There was a loud noise through the TV speakers. I pulled out the DVD. Then there was no sound from the TV on another DVD, the cable HD through the 5 component connection, or the regular TV source. I have the TV hooked to my Yamaha amplifier with a optical cable. I couldn't get any sound from the the TV through the amp either. I returned the TV to my retailer and got another one, but now I'm wondering if the DVD player did something to fry the circuit board on the TV? Could anything else have cause the problem? I'm now a little reluctant to try another DVD.

I apologize for the delay of a response.

I don't think the DVD player did anything to the television. It may have been a board in the television that went bad.

You shouldn't be afraid to play another DVD. It may be entirely possible that you got a TV with a bad board, or was damaged in shipping.

Hi,

Thanks for the response and the reassurance. That's what I thought was the problem but just wanted to make sure. The replacement HDTV is working great!

lost sound on samsung tv after attaching a wii
Jan 5, 2009 2:39AM PST

I bought a Wii system for Xmas and attached to my 32 inch Samsung tv. It blew the board. The tv is 3 years old. So much for Samsung. I will replace the tv instead of repairing for 350.00. Why would this happen? Sounds like Samsung has some sound issues. Will be replacing TV with another brand that is more reliable!

Wii and Samsung

Hi,

That's interesting because we attached our Wii to it too. Did yours blow while using the Wii? It seemed the Wii worked okay with ours.
