HDTV DVD recorders

Aug 10, 2005 5:28AM PDT

I have been using DVD recorders for a couple of years. My area will soon have HDTV. Do I need a new recorder for that, or will mine capture HDTV? I do have a Sony LCD HDTV, but without the tuner yet. I'm waiting until we get HDTV before I get that. Any recommendations about which one to buy?

You will have to wait a while for this. The HD DVD wars
are in full swing. There are 2 different formats fighting it out, both sides did try to get together and come up with ONE HD-DVD format, but to no avail.
As for HDTV tuners because of the FCC broadcast flag almsot nobody would make them. However since the court has thrown out the broadcast flag they should appear on the market soon.
DishNetwork and DirectTV have HD service.
All the major cities a broadcasting in HD along with analog. John

yes you will need a HD recorder to actually record HD content. Sony already has to HD DVD recorders available on their website and their prices are $800 or $1000 depending on the size of the hard drive you go with
