HDR-SR11 Sony Camcorder Help please

I was wondering if any body could help me. I'm really wanting to get a Mac Laptop.I just purchased my HDR-SR11 in March. From what I'm seeing and reading, the SR11 is not compatibable with the Mac. I'm so upset about this! What I usually do is put my video to my hard drive on my camcorder, then put my pictures on the memory stick. I know I can get my pictures off but I'm not seeing how to get the videos off and onto the Mac. Is there anyway to do this with out running sony's software which is Picture Motion Browser. my son has a Mac and has been playing with it but not getting very far.I just need to know before i fork out all this money. If there is any way, I want to get a mac. But I want to use my cool camera with it.
Thank you.

That camcorder uses AVCHD compression

Only the most current iMovieHD07 (that ships with iLife08) or the most current FinalCut (Express or Pro 2) running on and Intel-chip based Macintosh can deal with AVCHD encoded files. So... yes, Mac compatible - with the current tools. Previous versions of these video editors will not work. A non-Intel based Mac will not work.

Go for the new Mac, you will be glad you did

I am not sure if the new Mac laptops are intel based chips so you will need to check that out. I decided to go with the iMac desktop display unit. I find video work (all home videos) has been MUCH easier than it ever was with a PC. If you get an intel based Mac you should have no problems. Is there anyway to take your camera to a MAC store and try it out?
